“One of the best collegiate tracks I’ve heard in a while, it is teeming with vitality and musical maturity.”

– Jonathan Minkoff, Recorded A Cappella Review Board

Founded in 1985 by a small group of passionate undergraduates including Academy Award Winner Mira Sorvino, the Harvard-Radcliffe Veritones are Harvard College’s premier contemporary, co-ed a cappella group. We are known for the originality of our student-composed arrangements, our poise and stage presence, and the traditions that bring our tight-knit group together. While we are a contemporary a cappella group, our musical tastes reflects the diverse interests of all Veritones members. Along with current pop hits, we have performed music spanning genres like jazz, country and indie/alternative. We strive to create a collaborative musical environment for our members, and to continually transform ourselves to push the envelope of vocal music.

A passion for complex harmony and musical excellence has afforded us once-in-a-lifetime performance opportunities, including booking celebrity engagement parties, performing for Laverne Cox, Jason Alexander, Henry Cavill, Nikki Reed, Ian Somerhalder, and hosting and singing on Harvard Campus with Josh Groban and Bobby McFerrin. Along with two major performances every year in Harvard’s Sanders Theater, we entertain at a variety of events on campus and in the greater Boston-New York area. In our hometown of Boston, we have enjoyed the privilege of performing at the Boston Public Library, the Beanpot, the JFK Library, the Boston Chamber of Commerce, and Boston Symphony Hall during the 2016 ICCA Semifinals. Additionally, our annual tours provide us the opportunity to spread our music across the US and abroad. Past tour locations include Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Puerto Rico, and London. We believe music is a powerful tool for outreach and advocacy, and as a result we regularly perform in support of non-profit organizations such as the Perkins School for the Blind, the Girls Impact the World Film Festival, and the National Center for Civil and Human Rights.

Most recently, the Veritones were the only Harvard a cappella group to advance to the 2016 ICCA Semifinals, sweeping the awards for Best Soloist (Mallika Rangan ’17), Best Choreography (Hunter Merryman ’18) and Best Vocal Percussion (Suproteem Sarkar, ’19) , as well as taking 1st Place in ICCA Quarterfinals.

Our group has consistently received recognition from organizations like the Contemporary A Cappella Society, Voices Only, and Varsity Vocals. Our recorded tracks have received praise and success: The Veritones have been nominated for a Contemporary A Cappella Recording Award for Best Mixed Collegiate Album. Additionally, our music has been featured on the Best of Collegiate A Cappella and Best of Collegiate Humor A Cappella annual compilation albums, as well as An Ivy League Christmas compilation album. The Veritones have also recently been featured on BuzzFeed’s Top 15 Contemporary A Cappella Performances. Our work is consistently featured on AcaVille Radio, and we continually work to expand our reach beyond the Harvard community, by regularly participating in master classes with A Cappella professionals. The Veritones had the honor of hosting the A Cappella Education Association’s 2014 A Cappella Ed summit, and our members are regularly selected for specialized training sessions with Varsity Vocals and the Vocal Company.

Beyond rehearsal, our members excel in a wide variety of areas on campus. Members concentrate in subjects ranging from Mechanical Engineering to History and Literature, and are involved in diverse extracurricular activities outside music. Along with doubling as Peer Advising Fellows, Crimson Staff Writers, Law Society Presidents, and researchers in Harvard’s top laboratories, the Veritones are immensely proud of their title as defending two-time champions of the Aca-lympics, proving that we are also Harvard’s most athletic co-ed a cappella group!

Above all, the Veritones is an assorted group of Harvard students brought together by our immense passion for music and our commitment to pursuing a cappella excellence. Our unique blend is only strengthened by the love we have for each other. Becoming a Veritone is a bond for life, and members keep in touch long after Harvard’s halls have been left behind.

Once a Veritone, always a Veritone.
